Reaching Out to Syrian Refugees in North Lebanon

“…do good to those who hate you,  bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. (Luke 6: 27-28)

MELM visited new refugee’s camps in north. We knocked their door to give them a hand of help through food packages. The camps in north Lebanon occupied by Muslim refugees from Syria. We distributed for them the food packages, showing them the love of Christ even though they think that Christians are infidels. But they welcomed us with a smile and thanked us for the food packages and for the care we showed.

A Fruit from Street Ministry

“For I rescued the poor who cried out for help, the orphans, and the unassisted” (Job 12: 29)

During our MELM street ministry activity on the sea side Cornish, there was a kid called Marwan who was playing on there.  While we were singing Christian songs, distributing the Bible, other Christian booklets, and Bible stories for kids, Marwan approached us. We gave him a Bible story “Jesus Calms the Storm” and we had the opportunity to speak with him about Jesus and how much He loves him.

But since Marwan was alone in that place we asked him about his parents so we could also talk to them. Marwan’s mom left him with his father when he was a child and his father is careless and poor. Marwan doesn’t go to school, he works in a painting shop when they need him.  Marwan needed someone to care about him; he needed to feel the love of a father and a mother. Telling him about Jesus and how much Jesus loves him and cares about him drew a smile on his face full of happiness. When the heart becomes happy the face can’t hide it!

As a reaction of his happiness Marwan felt eager to spread the Good News he heard about Jesus to the other kids who were walking on the Cornish. He offered to help us in distributing the Bible stories we have to them and so he did.

We invited Marwan to our MELM office to receive his reward gift for his help. He visited us, and asked us to read for him all the stories we have about Jesus. We read for him many stories and we gave him as a gift a mug cup and a T-shirt written on them “Jesus Loves Me”.

After Marwan joyfully took the gift, we referred him to a church where he can get involved with kids programs and hear more and more about Jesus, so he did. Marwan is now enjoying attending the church kids program and there he feels home and cared about.

“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” (Psalm 68:5)

Reaching Out to Refugee Kids through ‘education project’

Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had. (Romans 15:2,5)

MELM has realized that many Syrian refugee children are not receiving proper education and felt the great need to help them learn the basic language and calculation skills. Most of these kids were unable to pass in the proper curriculum of the Lebanese government schools. A special education program was developed to teach these kids in Saida, south Lebanon and MELM has contributed tables and chairs to them. This project will enable us to reach out to these kids and through them make contact with their parents. The leaders of the project are strong supporters of MELM and were volunteers in many of our activities. MELM team visited the place, met the project leaders and the students who thanked MELM for the generous support.

Heal The Sick

“and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.”(Luke 9: 2)

A group of medical doctors came to Lebanon from Canada to help refugees with their health problems. The field of the medical ministry was in Bikaa valley. MELM was asked to take part in the medical day and give the doctors and refugees a hand of help with whatever was needed especially in translations from English language to Arabic and from Arabic to English. “The need is huge” the doctors reported. The refugees are facing infections, diseases, many other serious health problems especially among kids.  The ministry day ended successfully. Many of refugees were examined and were given the right medication for their health case.

“Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of trouble.” (Psalms 41: 1)
