Food Packages to Iraqi Refugees

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” (1 John 3: 16)

The need is always bigger than what we have to offer, but what we give helps the refugees to survive until they move to a better situation and a better country. Iraqi refugees in Lebanon count by thousands. MELM prepared and distributed food packages and gift boxes that contain Bible stories and candies to Iraqi refugees and their kids. They felt grateful for what they got from MELM, they were touched by this act of love specially during the holiday season away from their homes.  And how we cannot love them?

The Bible says : “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?  Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. (1 John 3: 17-18)

Holiday Season Still On

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13: 34-35)

MELM is Keeping the holiday season as longer as we can … We were asked to be part of a program prepared for the refugees kids in a mountain area called “Beitmery” where we gathered around 100 refugee kids and performed a Christmas program. The program contained Christmas songs, a “Red Boots for Christmas” DVD show, Christmas sketch, fun games. It was great time for them to attend and enjoy a day full of activities and learn about Jesus Christ, His love and His salvation. It also was a great time for us to share the Good News with them, talk to them, play and laugh with them. After what they have been through during war it was a great time for us to show them the Christian love.

Christmas Program for Refugee kids

An education center located in a very poor area in the suburbs of Beirut called “Bourj Hammoud” where hundreds of refugees live in that place, provided MELM with a time to share the Christmas meaning and the good news with these refugee’s kids who attend that educational center. The program was divided into two sections, one for younger kids, and other for the older, in which Christian songs, games, and the “Red Boots for Christmas” DVD show was included.  The kids heard about Jesus and the reason we celebrate His birth, they learned that He is the ultimate gift of love He is the savior and the Lord of life for each one of them. The kids had a lot of questions and comments after the movie show which was an opportunity to speak more about Gods’ love. At the end many of them prayed and ask Jesus to be their savior. Also they got as a gift the storybook of the movie in which they were very happy to take home.

Christmas Event for Iraqi Refugees

“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1: 21)

When the hatred spreads among people and cause war and death, a loving God is spreading His forgiveness and salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. It is the greatest news ever people could hear especially the broken hearted refugees.

Iraqi Christians escaped the mascaras caused by ISIS and left their country and the land of their ancestors. They were forcibly uprooted from their homes empty handed, broken and terrified. A mass exodus occurred toward the neighboring countries of Iraq. Some of these survivors went to Jordan, others went to Turkey, and others came to Lebanon as a temporary refuge until they would be relayed to European or Western countries where they could restart their life over again.

MELM has been helping the Iraqis who are in dire need of food and humanitarian aid. MELM never forgets to draw a smile on the Iraqi kids’ faces, and for Christmas season prepared with the help of volunteers 800 Christmas gifts to Iraqi kids. The gifts were Christmas designed boxes that contain three Christmas Bible stories “Arch Books” series, and a good collection of sweets, chocolates, and candies.

On a special day for Christmas, a program was prepared for hundreds of Iraqi kids. MELM supported this program in many ways, helped the children with the transportation and distributed the gift boxes with Santa who added an excitement to the program that included Christmas songs and sketches about Christmas.

The press too was present in the event where they took snapshots of the program. “Al Hurra TV”, a pan Arab TV, interviewed MELM Director, Mr. Fadi Khairallah, concerning the event. He explained that MELM feels with the agony of the Iraqi refugees’ kids and wants to put a smile on their face. We want to let them feel that we love and care for them and that they are not forgotten or neglected. We want them to feel the joy of Christmas and celebrate the birth of the Savior with us. We wish them safety, peace and joy in their life journey.
