Reaching Out Syrian Refugee Women

Before the conflict in Syria forced women into exile, many of them managed their households, but depended heavily on the financial security and protection provided by the men in their families. In some cases, their lifestyles were such that they did not even go shopping alone. Often they lived in areas where other members of their extended family were close by – Syrian families are traditionally very tight-knit.

The war changed all of that, tearing families and communities apart. Men were killed, imprisoned or badly injured. Fear, as a constant, entered into their lives. Many of the women were too frightened to remain alone in the midst of a war zone. Based on United Nation study, Sixteen per cent of Syrian women interviewed pointed to the absence of their former head of household as the main reason for their decision to leave Syria, that crucial moment when they said: now is time to leave.

A number attributed their feelings of insecurity, or their experiences of harassment or exploitation, to the fact that they were living without an adult male, who would ordinarily provide social and physical protection. (WOMAN ALONE: The fight for survival by Syria’s refugee women By United Nation)

MELM Found a need to visit the Syrian refugee’s women. Therefore MELM Team gathered a group of women in a tent in Bikaa valey, where there was an opportunity to listen to their problems, try to give a hand of help where needed and the most of all tell them the Good News, the salvation message and explain the Love of God through Jesus Christ, His care and protection specially during the difficult situations. They knew that God knows even the count of their hair, He listen to them at any time they pray to Him, His phone line always opens to answer them for free,  there isn’t any bill they have to pay at the end of the month.

Many shared their stories and were touched by the Christian message their heard. They knew that they are princesses in Jesus Christ based of the Biblical promise:  and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (Revelation 1:6)

The time we spent felt like God dwelled in that tent and many of the women prayed asking Jesus to be their Lord and Savior. Also we distributed to them the “Praying Hands” pin, advising them to pin it on their clothes and consider it every time they see it or touch it, a mobile phone connects them with heavens if they pray. The program was ended with sharing some sweets and juice and a big thanks to MELM asking us to come back again.

Reaching Out Syrian Refugees through a medical care

“… I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” (Matthew 25:36)

The 1.5 million refugee influx into Lebanon has resulted in heavy strain on the Lebanese health care infrastructure and has excluded massive numbers of refugees from access to basic health services.

MELM was asked to give a hand of help during a medical care day organized by Mobile clinic ministry and Global home. The medical care was for Syrian refugees who live in tents in Bikaa valey, Lebanon.

MELM team was helping the sick people during their doctor examination, also we took turn in talking and playing with the kids, and visiting with the adults people, women and men, who were waiting their doctors examination turns too. It was great opportunity to reach out to refugees through medical care.

Reaching Out to Syrian Kurdish Kids

Thousands of Syrian Kurdish refugees flood to Lebanon escaping the war in Syria. Many thousands are in need and live in poor areas in Lebanon trying to survive with the minimum. Kurds mostly come from Sunni Muslim background. The Syrian Kurds organized an event related to their folklore and traditions. MELM participated in the event with the aim of reaching out to the Muslim Kurds. Therefore the program was divided into two parts, First Syrian Kurdish folklore, the second Christian songs, sermons, and kids program.

Since MELM has been reaching out the Syrian Kurds, they asked us to help them with their kids. Therefore we prepared a program for Kurdish kids while their parents were proceeding with their programs. The kids program contained games, Christian lessons about transforming our life into Christ same as a worm transforms to a beautiful butterfly. In addition they watched Puzzle Club pet napping video which was followed by a discussion about God’s love through Jesus Christ and His salvation that can change our lives for the better. Also every happily kid received a Bible Story titled “Jesus Walks on The Water”. There were blessings to all the adult and kids during the program.
